The functions of this chinese medicine formula are to warm the channels and unblock yang Qi while expelling wind and supporting Qi. Ma Huang (Herba Ephedrae, Ephedra Stem, Ma -huang)

Cooking Preparation of Xiao Xu Ming Tang
When preparing this natural chinese medicine formula all ingredients should be ground into a powder except Gan Cao. Ma Huang should be cooked first bringing it to a boil 3 times and removing the foam each time. The other natural herbs should be added and decocted with Ma Huang. After this formula is decocted all the herbs should be strained out and the fluid should be divided into 3 different dosages.

This TCM Herbal formula is a modification of Gui Zhi Ma Huang Ge Ban Tang (Combined Cinnamon Twig and Ephedra Decoction) because this pathogenesis is similar to that of superficial wind cold damp painful obstruction and may be used for both of these disorders. When the appropriate symptoms are present this chinese medicine formula is able to treat such disorders as central facial paralysis, peripheral facial paralysis, cerebrovascular accident (CVA), Urticaria and rheumatoid arthritis.
