Flaccidity Syndrome

 

Western medicine  

Flaccidity syndrome is a disorder of the Peripheral Nervous System which can cause numbness and weakness of specific areas of the body leading to atrophy of the muscles and flesh.  This is common in Multiple Sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, myelitis, myasthenia gravis, ...    as well as other spinal and muscular disorders.  Flaccidity syndrome is most successfully treated early on while long term chronic conditions are more slowly treated as well as more difficult.  


There are Several types of Flaccidity Syndrome according To Chinese Medicine:

 

Lung Heat Yin and Fluid Insufficiency

This is caused by an epidemic febrile disease which leads to leads to weak limbs and flaccidty syndrome.  

Acupuncture points 

hand Taiyin, Yangming, Hua Tou Jia Ji according to spinal nerves, or do whole spinal column, LU 9, LI 11, ST 37 - Lung dryness- LU 7, KI 6

 

Damp Heat Accumulation

This condition of flaccidity syndrome the lower limbs are generall effected feeling weak, numb, and heavy.  There will be loose or mucusy stool with lots of smell and chronic rash's along the anus or reproductive organs.  

Acupuncture points 

foot Taiyin, Yangming, Hua Tou Jia Ji (for lower limbs of nerve branches and low Jiao organs), SP 9 and Ren 3 (damp), Pai Ci , LI 4, 11 (heat) - digestion- Ren 12, Nei Ting

 

Spleen Stomach deficiency

Similar to that of muscle atrophy.  A whole body sense of weakness and atrophy, loose stool, poor appetite, bloating and general sense of extreme fatigue.  Little or no amount of pain.  

Acupuncture points 

foot Yangming, Pai Ci, Hua Tou Jia Ji, Ren 6, SP 6, 9Liver

 

Kidney deficiency

Similar to that of Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  There will also be low back pain and weakness, sore knees, urination at night, poor memory, low libido, ...

Acupuncture points 

foot Shaoyin, Yangming, Hua Tou Jia Ji, Pai Ci (upper and lower limbs), Wei Ci (around troubled area), Ren 4, SP 6, KI 3, BL 23

 

Blood Stasis

similar that to neuropathy (Heart attack recovery).  Stabbing pains with atrophy in 1 specific area of the body.  The tongue will be a mild form of purple.  

Acupuncture points

Hua Tou Jia Ji, local points, Ren 6, SP 6, 10, BL 40

Electrical Acupuncture- intermittent or alternating frequency, must see muscle twitch

7 star Acupuncture - allong bladder meridian
