Enuresis

Enuresis Diagnosis:

the inability to control the urge to urinate especially while in bed. Mainly caused by Kidney and Bladder disorders usually caused by Deficiency Cold. Enuresis is common in babies, geriatrics or during post delivery in men. it is commonly called incontinence if urination occurs while patient is awake. Main Acupuncture points: Ren 3, Du 20

 

Western Medicine: Neurological dysfunction, urinary tract disorders, brain disorders, (meningitis, stroke, tumour) prostate disorders, kidney dysfunction.

 

Chinese Medicine:

All 5 Zang organs can cause Yi Niao

1. Lung Qi Def. -lung regulates water passages- def qi allows lung to loose it’s governing function there fore impairing the Bladders function.

2. SP. Qi Def. -spleen transports/transforms fluids which controls fluid movemenTongue -spleen qi sinking allows the spleen to loose control of these fluids.

3. Weak Kid. -kidney controls the gates – when kidney is weak it looses control of the gate allowing urine to leak out.

4. Kid. Yang def. –kidney looses transforming fluids function, it is unable to help bladder retail fluids

5. Liver Qi stag.and Damp HeaTongue - liver will loose it’s soothing and regulating function – this causes the muscles to become flaccid allowing leakage.

6. Liver Yin Def. –liver impairs DU meridian function 7. Heart Qi Def.-heart connects to S.I. and KD– when heart Qi is deficient it impacts the S.I. function so it will not absorb all the water and the KD will not be able to balance the water.

 

Etiology (causes)::

1. Deficiency cold

2. Accumulation of damp heat

3. Accumulation of blood stasis in lower Jiao (trauma ie. Post pregnancy)

 

Chinese Medicine Differentiation and Treatment


Kidney Yang Qi Def. (def. cold in lower Jiao) Large amount of clear urine, general kd def. cold sympt. Cold, tired, knee and lower back weakness/ache T-pale P-deep thin

Principle of Treatment: warm kidney, induce astringent, consolidate kidney Qi

Acupuncture points – Moxa and needle, Shu, Ren, Ren 3, 4, BL 23, 28, SP 6 - sleep too deeply- Du 20, HT 7 - open and activae Ren- Moxa LU 7 (Ren confluent)

Herbal Medicine Treatment: Tu Si Zi Wan, Sang Piao Xiao San

 

Lung and Spleen Qi Def. Prolapse feeling in Lower abdomen, urine leaks out when coughing/talking, frequent urgent urination, grey pale complexion, short of breath, over-worked / over-worry / over-thinking (sad/worried/tired) T-pale P-weak

Principle of Treatment: nourish spleen/lung Qi to control urine

Acupuncture points – Ren, hand and foot Taiyin, Ren 3, 6, LU 9, SP 6, ST 36, add Back Shu points, Du 20

Herbal Medicine Treatment: Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang + astringent herbs Long Go, Mu Li

 

Heart and Kidney Qi Def. Dreaming with enuresis, canker sores, poor sleep, irritable, general yin def. symptoms. T-red tip/strawberry’s P-thin/rapid/deep (kd)

Principle of Treatment: nourish and harmonize Heart and Kidney

Herbal Medicine Treatment: Sang Piao Xiao San + Jiao Tai Wan

 

Accumulation of Damp Heat in Lower Jiao Smelly, yellow, frequent, hot urine, (NO PAIN) T-red/yellow/ greasy coat P-thin/slippery/rapid

Principle of Treatment: induce diuresis to clear heat

Herbal Medicine Treatment: Ba Zheng San

 

Blood Stasis Usually has traumatic injury, possible fever (infection=dark urine), masses in abdomen, more incontinence than enuresis. T-red/purple P-uneven/rapid

Principle of Treatment: remove blood stasis from lower jiao, clear heat

Herbal Medicine Treatment: Shao Fu Zhu Yu Tang + clear heat herbs Zhi Zi, Huang Lian, Huang Bai

 

Du Meridian Def. / Kidney Essence Def. Dizziness, blurred vision, reproductive disorders (impotence/infertility), general kidney essence def. symptoms. T-thin, weak P-wiry

Principle of Treatment: nourish Kidney and DU essence

Herbal Medicine Treatment: Shen Shi Tu Si Zi Wan
