Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Chinese Angelica Root, Tang -kuei)

- 9g. -harmonize and regulate liver

Bai Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Lactiflorae, White Peony Root, Peony)

- 48g. -harmonize and regulate liver, stops pain, nourish blood

Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos, China -root, Poria, Hoelen)

- 12g. -tonify spleen Qi, drain dampness

Cooking Preparation of Dang Gui Shao Yao San
This natural medicine formula should have all it's Herbal ingredients ground into a fine powder and taken as a 3 -6 gram draft in warm water with a small amount of wine mixed in. This draft should be taken 3 times per day. Today Dang Gui Shao Yao San is usually found in prepared formulations.

Aditional Information on Dang Gui Shao Yao San
This Herbal formula is a modification of Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) by adding Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Glutinosae Conquitae) and omitting the deputy herbs. Because abdominal pain has many types of causes this formula should be used in only those conditions where the cause is a disharmony of the liver and spleen (liver blood deficiency and blood stagnation with spleen deficiency and dampness).

If there is more severe pain another formula used for abdominal pain is Jiao Ai Tang (Ass -hide Gelatin and Mugwort Decoction). Dang Gui Shao Yao San is used to treat abdominal pain during pregnancy but is not limited to this pattern and is used for a great number of other disorders by today's practitioners. When the appropriate symptoms are present this Herbal formula is able to treat such disorders as habitual miscarriage, threatened miscarriage, primary dysmenorrhea, pelvic inflammatory disease, chronic nephritis and beriberi.
