Eczema and Chinese Medicine

 

Accumulation of Damp/Heat

Acute onset covers the body sparsely from head to toe, may be painful, swollen, buring, red, may have vesicles

Principle of Treatment – clear Heat, eliminate Damp, relieve itch

Acupuncture points – foot Taiyang, hand Yangming, foot Taiyin, BL 13, LI 11, BL 40 (bleed for Damp/Heat), SP 9, HT 7

 

Spleen deficiency with Damp slow onset, red itchy, Spleen deficiency symptoms (fatigue, loose stool, poor digestion), T- pale, tender fat looking, white coat, P- soft

Acupuncture points – foot Taiyin, and Yangming, BL 20, SP 9, ST 36, SP 2, LI 11, Ren 12, ST 25

 

Blood deficiency with internal or external Wind-dryness area gets thick, dry, itchy, and flakes away, patient scratches, P- wiry thin

Acupuncture points – BL 17 and SP 10, SP 6 and ST 36, PC 4 and HT 7, LI 1

 

Alternative Treatment Methods

auricular- LU, Shenmen, adrenal, bleed retroauricular vein, LR, subcortex

7 star- around area, Hua Tou Jia Ji, and on affected area, bleed slightly Heat lamp and Moxa- if there is Blood Stasis

Adult Eczema Inflamation of the outer layer of skin from an unknown cause. In the early stages it may be itchy and red and have small b ers which swell and weep. The b ers will slowly crust over and become scaly as the skin thickens around the effected area. The itching and burning sensation can be aggravated by any type of heat, alcohol or certain soaps.

INTERIOR

 

Damp Heat

Herbal Formula: Bei Xie Shen Shi Tang + Er Miao San Top of Body - Ju Hua, Chan Tui, Sang Ye Middle area of Body - Long Dan Cao, Huang Qin Lower part of Body - Chu Xian Zi, Zi Xie Severe Itch - Di Fu Zi, Bai Xian Pi Burning - Mu Dan Pi, Sheng Di Huang, Chi Xiao Yao

 

Wind Heat

Herbal Formula: Xiao Geng San + herbs which enter the blood (dan Shen, Bai Ji Li, Mu Dan Pi)

 

Spleen Dampness - chronic excema, less red and more pale with thin fluids discharge

Herbal Formula: Chu Shu Wei Ling Tang + aromatic herbs to dry damp (Hou Xiang)

 

Blood Deficiency - chronic excema with thick, dry, dark flaky skin

Herbal Formula: Dang Gui Yin Zi + expel wind herbs (Qing Jiao, Bai Ji Li, Fang Feng) Si Wu Xiao Feng Yin + expel wind herbs (Qing Jiao, Bai Ji Li, Fang Feng) EXTERIOR - Apply anything cooling

 

Infantile Eczema Usually occurs in babies from the ages of 2-3 months until the age of 2-3years.

 

Chinese Medicine Treatment Of Infantile Eczema: INTERIOR

 

Damp Heat - Phat body, usually rash appears around eye brow and behind ears. They will develop thick yellow scabs and clinically have poor digestion (constipation and/or diarrhea) During the pregnancy the mother usually had heat with this condition.

Herbal Formula: Xiao Feng Dao Chi Tang

 

Spleen Deficiency - Dry - baby will look deficient, weak muscular development, dry eruptions, pink flaky skin. Baby easily vomits undigested food

Herbal Formula: Shen Ling Bai Zhu San EXTERIOR Apply Di Yu Huang Bai Tang Wash - peel off scabs - apply Qing Dai Cream
