Herbal Ingredients of Yi Guan Jian

Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae, Chinese Foxglove Root, Rehmannia)

- 18 -45g. -nourish blood, nourish kidney yin

Gou Qi Zi (Fructus Lycii, Chinese Wolfberry Fruit, Lycium)

- 9 -18g. -nourish blood, nourish kidney yin

Sha Shen (Radix Adenophorae seu Glehniae, Adenophora, Glehnia Root)

- 9g. -nourish lung and stomach yin

Mai Men Dong (Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonici, Ophiopogon Tuber)

- 9g. -nourish lung and stomach yin

Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Chinese Angelica Root, Tang -kuei)

- 9g. -nourish and invigorate blood

Chuan Lian Zi (Fructus Meliae Toosendan, Sichuan Chinaberry, Melia)

- 4.5g. -soothe and regulate liver Qi

Cooking Preparation of Yi Guan Jian
When preparing this Chinese medicine Herbal formula one should note the large dosage of Sheng Di Huang and it's nourishing functions which nourish the liver and therefore alleviating stagnation. This formula is generally used in prepared formulations.

Additional Information on Yi Guan Jian
This Herbal formula is Mainly used to treat liver yin deficiency with liver Qi stagnation occurring simultaneously. Yi Guan Jian should be compared to Si Ni San (Frigid Extremities Powder) and Xiao Yao San (Rambling Powder) as each formula is particularly effective in treating hypochondriac pain due to liver stagnation. Si Ni San is better used when there are cold extremities with hypochondriac pain, Xiao Yao San is indicated when there are emotional roots to the hypochondriac pain with spleen symptoms. This leaves Yi Guan Jian and it's main indications being due to liver yin with heat signs as well as pain. When the appropriate symptoms are present this Chinese Herbal formula is able to treat such disorders as chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, costochrondritis, peptic ulcer, essential hypertension, hypertension during pregnancy, addison's disease, thrombocytopenic purpura, pulmonary tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus, chronic orchiditis and neurasthenia.
