Tong Guan San

Open the Gate Powder

Main Action of Tong Guan San
The functions of this chinese medicine formula is to regain consciousness by opening the orifices and unblocking the gate (jaw). This TCM Herbal formula is best suited for conditions of comatose collapse (hun jue) where it is of the excess type (closed) type. There is usually a sudden attack of turbid Qi, usually from exposure to extreme foul smells. This causes Qi to become rebellious and disordered. The spirit becomes disturbed resulting in Qi stagnation with rebellious Qi flowing upwards bringing with it turbid phlegm. The turbid phlegm obstructs the sensory orifices causing the loss of consciousness, clenched jaws and difficulty in breathing.
